St Mary and St John, Hinxton

St Mary ^ St John, Hinxton - g

We are a small, friendly and prayerful church in the village of Hinxton.

Our Sunday Services happen at 8am on the 2nd Sunday and 10am on the 3rd Sunday.  During the week, we meet for Compline on Thursday evenings at 7pm and to pray for people caught up in the war in Ukraine on Fridays at 12 noon.

Hinxton lies in the water meadows to the east of the River Granta.  It's a compact, close-knit community, with a local tradition of service to neighbours and to good causes.  On the national stage, Hinxton’s claim to fame is as home to the Wellcome Genome Campus at Hinxton Hall, UK partner in the Human Genome Project.  More recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists at the Campus led the world on genomic surveillance and provided the central sequencing hub of the COVID-19 Genomics UK consortium.

It may well be just as much a source of pride for the village that, over and over again, Hinxton has won the British Legion’s award for Cambridgeshire for the largest donations to the Poppy Appeal per head.
Hinxton people look after each other.

The church building is Grade 2* listed with a Norman nave and stained glass windows dating from the 14th to the 21st centuries. The Friends of Hinxton Church help to keep the building in good condition through their fundraising efforts.

A Warm Hello

Here's what to expect if you're coming to Church on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at one of our three Churches (details here) for our main Sunday Service, which starts at 10am.

We usually serve tea, coffee and biscuits after the service.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Duxford and Ickleton Churches have a toilet.

Children are more than welcome to all of our 10am services, however the services on the first and second Sunday of the month in Ickleton are more children orientated.
