Vicar's Report
Built on Firm Foundations
You are wonderful communities to work with and I especially value the growing collegiality born of COVID times between the Hinkledux churches. I am hugely grateful for the faithfulness of volunteers who keep the show on the road in caring for our church buildings and churchyards, managing other practicalities like our finances and contributing to worship in so many ways. And to those people who keep us outward facing in our work with Duxford school, with young people, children and families and with older neighbours in our villages.
Growing in faith
Through the year our practices of prayer and study have continued in the fellowship group, and Compline services and expanded to include the weekly prayers for Ukraine. Thanks to all who facilitate these gatherings and who have helped with our Lent and Advent groups held jointly with Whittlesford. And in services for Plough Sunday, Rogation, Lammas as well as Harvest we have celebrated the story of creation as it’s expressed in our (relatively) rural context.
Watching out for what is coming
On the horizon for each of our churches is the practical task of looking after our buildings. We have three projects underway: conserving the wall paintings at Ickleton, work on the heating system at Hinxton and the roof at Duxford. But we are looking also for opportunities to deepen our connection with God and with each other and looking for new ways to share God’s love with our neighbours and wider community. And so we pray:
Go before us, Lord, in all we do
with your most gracious favour,
and guide us with your continual help,
that in all our works
begun, continued and ended in you,
we may glorify your holy name,
and finally by your mercy receive everlasting life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
