Duxford, Tenebrae

This ‘Service of Shadows’ uses readings & music  to trace Jesus’s journey towards betrayal & death, by the light of seven candles. The candles are extinguished, until only one remains. When the final candle is snuffed out, we hear a loud noise symbolising the tomb door shutting. We leave in silence & darkness.

Good Friday devotions

Today we spent time reflecting on Good Friday and the passion of Christ. As part of those reflections we used prayer stations to help us think and reflect – we even had a video projected onto the bare altar with a simple but powerful retelling of the Easter story.

Here are some of our other prayer stations for your reflection:

Ickleton, Good Friday Devotions and Proclamation of the Passion

We gather in the church to meditate and pray, reflecting on the events of Good Friday.

Crafts and installations created by local children will be used as prayer stations, to help us explore the events of the Passion and what they mean for us today.

At 2.45 pm there is the proclamation of the passion.

You are welcome to come call in for part of this period or the whole time.

Hinxton, Easter Garden

Children and young people work together to create an Easter garden for display in the church. With each addition to the garden they tell and reflect on the Easter story.

Duxford, Maundy Thursday

Solemn Eucharist with footwashing, stripping of the
Altar & Watch of Passion.

We remember Jesus’s final meal, the Last Supper, by breaking bread & sharing wine as he did. The ministers wash the feet of those who wish, as Jesus did for his friends, to show that God comes to human beings as one who serves.

As the service ends, we hear of Jesus’s arrest. The lights go out; the altar is stripped, leaving the church bare & unadorned. We leave in silence & darkness, full of sorrow. Some people will remain, taking turns to pray in the dark church until midnight.
